Website Design Concept

Connect Construction

A proposed trades directory that lets homeowners search, compare and contact local businesses, and gives those trades a clear way to get listed.

Connect Construction website concept homepage

This is a design concept: a website we designed as a proposal for Connect Construction. It was not commissioned, and West Coast Media Solutions is not affiliated with Connect Construction.

At a Glance

Connect Construction is a directory for finding trusted local trades in Surrey and the Lower Mainland. Our concept runs to eleven sections, opening with a search bar and popular trades, then a filterable grid of trade categories, a three-step guide, featured verified businesses, coupons, a pitch to trades, a mobile app section, project tips, a newsletter sign-up and a contact form.

The Brief

A trades directory has two audiences with opposite needs: homeowners want a reliable trade, and trades want to be found. Neither side could be allowed to feel like an afterthought.

  • Put search first, with popular trades offered as shortcuts for homeowners who already know what they need.
  • Make browsing by category easy, with a filterable grid showing how many businesses each trade lists.
  • Build trust into every listing through verified marks, ratings, reviews and active coupons.
  • Give trades their own clear path, from the List your business button to a section on growing their business.

What We Designed

Search comes before anything else. The headline, Find local trades you can trust, sits in white across a dark opening panel above a search bar and six popular trades: roofing, plumbing, electrical, concrete, painting and cabinets. Sample listing cards follow, each with initials, trade, city, a verified mark and a Connect button. Below them come the category grid, a three-step guide, featured trades, coupons, the pitch to trades, the app, tips, the newsletter and contact.

Construction yellow marks the List your business button in the navigation, set against white and near-black like site signage. Archivo gives the headings a firm, industrial weight, IBM Plex Sans handles the text and IBM Plex Mono serves as a technical accent, which suits a page full of counts, ratings and categories. The tone stays practical, closer to a well-organized trade counter than a glossy magazine.

Search with shortcuts

A search bar opens the page, with six popular trades listed beneath it as ready-made starting points.

Filterable category grid

Eighteen trade categories, each showing its number of listed businesses, can be narrowed with a filter and reset with one button.

Coupons and verified marks

Active coupons and verified badges help homeowners weigh one business against another before reaching out through the platform.

A path for trades

List your business stays in the navigation, and a section on growing a trade business speaks to the other side of the directory.

How We Achieved It

Homeowners are served first. After search and the category grid, a three-step guide, Search, Connect, Build, explains how the directory works and ends by asking people to leave a review for the next homeowner. Featured businesses and coupons follow, so the reasons to choose one trade over another sit close to the listings themselves. Three articles on renovations, plumbing checks and cabinets give homeowners practical reading before they hire.

The trades side has its own space: the List your business button, a section on growing a trade business, and footer columns split between homeowners and trades. Two forms complete the page, a one-field newsletter sign-up for tips and local deals and a contact form with name, phone, email, subject and message, and both have spam protection built in. The page title promises trusted local trades in Surrey and the Lower Mainland, the idea the whole directory is built around.
