Website Case Study
Pun Town
Puns and dad jokes on one dark, playful page, where readers roll a random pun, search by topic or browse eight categories.
At a Glance
On Pun Town, a site we own and operate, a curated collection of over 155 puns, dad jokes and one-liners is sorted into eight categories, from food and drink to science and math, animals and the workplace. We designed it as a single page: a random pun generator sits near the top, a search box finds puns by topic, and every pun can be answered with a reaction or copied to share. Newsletter and contact forms close the page.

The Brief
A pun lands best in the moment, so our brief to ourselves was simple: serve one instantly. After that first groan, readers had to be able to explore a large collection without getting lost in it.
- Serve a random pun as soon as the page loads, with a button to roll another.
- Organize over 155 puns into eight categories that are easy to browse.
- Make any pun easy to find by topic and quick to copy and share.
- Offer a newsletter so readers can get a pun in their inbox.
What We Designed
We set Pun Town on a near-black background with light text and a vivid violet accent, which gives it the feel of a late-night comedy club. The tagline, Where Wordplay Comes to Groan, sets the tone straight away. Playfair Display adds a mock-serious, bookish air to the headline that plays against the jokes, while Outfit keeps the rest crisp and readable.
After the headline and a short introduction, a random pun card shows a line such as The shoemaker did a sole-searching job, labelled with its category and followed by a Hit Me Again button and a search box. The eight categories come next in turn, each headed by an emoji and a pun count, then a complete index of every pun by category, the newsletter signup and a contact form.
Random pun generator
A Hit Me Again button rolls a fresh pun, labelled with its category, near the top of the page.
Pun search
A search box finds puns by topic across the whole collection.
Reactions and copy
Each pun carries a row of reaction faces and a copy button for quick sharing.
Eight categories
Food and drink, science and math, animals, work, health, everyday objects, nature and a wildcard set.
How We Achieved It
Every pun is numbered within its category and carries a row of reaction faces and a copy button, so copying one to share takes a single tap. The search box looks across the collection by topic, and the generator labels each random pun with its category, which makes the site as good for a quick laugh as for a long browse.
Spam protection comes from Google reCAPTCHA on both the contact form and the newsletter signup, which we added in October 2026. Privacy, cookie, terms, legal and accessibility policies open as overlays from the footer, so nobody is sent away from the jokes to read them. The page also carries a meta description and structured data, and its copyright year updates itself.
