Website Case Study

Coastal Christmas

Where the forest meets the sea, this holiday website invites visitors to bonfires, whale watching and coastal gifts as December approaches.

At a Glance

Coastal Christmas celebrates the holiday season on the West Coast, from Vancouver, BC. We designed and built it as a single, self-contained page: the story behind it, six festive experiences from beachside bonfires to holiday whale watching, a gift shop of eight curated items, a countdown to December 1, traditions and stories, testimonials, a newsletter and a contact form. Longer copy opens in overlays, so the page itself stays easy to scroll.

The Brief

Christmas on the coast is a different season from the snowy postcard, and the site had to make that feel inviting. It also had to give visitors things to do: experiences to explore, gifts to choose and something to look forward to.

  • Set a coastal winter mood on the first screen, with a clear choice between experiences and gifts.
  • Present six experiences and eight gifts in a format that is quick to scan.
  • Build anticipation with a countdown to December 1 and a newsletter list.
  • Keep long descriptions available without making the page heavy to scroll.

What We Designed

Where the Ocean Meets the Holidays sits above the name in the opening screen, with two buttons: explore experiences or shop gifts. Our Story follows, with four pillars (ocean-inspired, locally crafted, handmade warmth, nature-centred), then six experiences with short tags such as Evening Event, Family Favourite and Hands-On. The curated gift shop, the countdown, Stories from the Shore, Voices from the Coast, the newsletter and a Say Hello contact section complete the page.

Instead of red and green, the palette is deep ocean navy with sea-gold accents and frost-pale text, closer to a winter night on the water. Playfair Display gives the headings a classic holiday elegance, Raleway keeps the body copy light and clean, and Great Vibes adds a handwritten script for festive flourishes. Small emoji markers, from a tree to a whale, label the pillars and experiences.

Six coastal experiences

Bonfires, Santa by the sea, a rainforest wreath workshop, whale watching, a candlelight market and winter wine and dine.

Curated gift shop

Eight curated coastal gifts, each with a fuller description that opens in an overlay.

December 1 countdown

Under The Holiday Season is Coming, a countdown ticks toward December 1.

Stories from the shore

Posts on the coastal Yule log, a Dungeness crab feast, winter wildlife and a holiday playlist.

How We Achieved It

We built Coastal Christmas as a single, self-contained HTML file to our standard pattern. Long-form copy for each experience, gift and blog post, and the FAQ, opens in an overlay, so visitors can read the detail and return to exactly where they were. The countdown gives the page a reason to be revisited before the season starts, and the newsletter signup turns that anticipation into a list.

Visible email addresses are obfuscated with JavaScript, and the contact and newsletter forms are protected with Google reCAPTCHA plus our standard checks. The favicon set, a gold layered tree over a wave, was generated from a single SVG master so it stays sharp at every size, and keyboard users can skip straight to the main content.
