At a Glance

hantavirus.zone is a single-page live dashboard tracking the 2026 MV Hondius hantavirus cluster alongside global surveillance. We built it to show current case numbers, a live intelligence feed with timestamped updates, a strain comparison table, an outbreak timeline, symptoms and prevention advice, global context and the official sources behind it all, with a contact form and alert signup.

The Brief

When an outbreak is in the news, people want current numbers and the sources behind them, not alarm. The dashboard had to put the latest counts, clear advice and a calm tone in one place.

  • Show the WHO risk level and the core numbers (confirmed, suspected, deaths, countries) as soon as the page loads.
  • Attribute every update to its source, whether WHO, CDC or a news outlet, with a timestamp.
  • Compare hantavirus strains and their case fatality rates in one table.
  • Pair the data with plain symptoms and prevention advice and a clear medical disclaimer.

What We Designed

The header shows the WHO risk level beside a live clock, and a ticker carries the headline developments. The page then moves from the current outbreak numbers into live intelligence, a strain comparison, symptoms and prevention, global context and data sources, ending with a contact form and a signup for alerts.

For a health subject we steered away from alarm reds. The palette is a pale lavender with deep violet headings and muted plum text, calm and easy to read, while Outfit keeps headings approachable and Geist Mono, a monospaced face, lends the data the precision of a monitoring screen. Uppercase section labels make the long page quick to scan.

Live intelligence feed

Timestamped updates, each credited to its source, with a countdown to the next refresh.

Outbreak numbers

Confirmed and suspected cases, deaths and the countries monitoring cases, set out as headline figures at the top.

Strain comparison

A table of hantavirus strains and their case fatality rates puts the strain behind this outbreak in context.

Official sources

Links to WHO, CDC, ECDC and national health authority material for anyone who wants the primary sources.

How We Achieved It

The whole dashboard lives in a single HTML file, built to our standard pattern. Live figures refresh on a visible countdown, every update carries a time and a source, and the footer states plainly that the site is informational, not medical advice, and tells anyone who suspects exposure to contact their local health authority.

Five legal policies open as overlays from the footer, so readers never leave the dashboard to check them. Email addresses are obfuscated with JavaScript, the copyright year updates by itself, and a favicon set and Open Graph image make shared links look right. The contact form and alert signup both carry Google reCAPTCHA spam protection.
