Speedy Gourmet Meals

Restaurant-style dinners in half an hour or less, presented like a bistro menu with a cooking time and tags on every dish.

Speedy Gourmet Meals website homepage

At a Glance

Every recipe on Speedy Gourmet Meals can be cooked in 30 minutes or less. For this West Coast Media Solutions content site we designed a single page that reads like a restaurant menu: more than 50 recipes, from truffle mushroom risotto to Korean beef bibimbap, filterable by category and tagged by cuisine and style. A How It Works section, weekly favourites, reviews, a newsletter and a contact form complete the page.

The Brief

Gourmet cooking has a reputation for long afternoons and specialist skills. This site had to show the opposite at first sight, with every dish timed and nothing that calls for a culinary degree.

  • Make restaurant-quality cooking look achievable on a weeknight, with the time shown on every dish.
  • Break the menu into chicken, pasta, seafood, vegetarian, beef, Asian, salad and breakfast.
  • Explain how the recipes work, from pantry to plate, before asking anyone to subscribe.
  • Bring cooks back each week with featured favourites and a weekly newsletter.

What We Designed

The headline, Cook gourmet in thirty minutes flat, is paired with a featured dish card for truffle mushroom risotto showing its cooking time, so the promise is demonstrated before it is explained. Below it, the recipe collection is introduced as The Menu, and the page carries on through How It Works, the week's favourites, reviews from home cooks, the weekly recipe signup and contact.

We kept the palette close to monochrome: near-black type and buttons on a warm cream ground, like a printed bistro menu, with the food emoji on each card bringing the colour. Playfair Display lends the headings the feel of a restaurant menu, and DM Sans handles times, tags and descriptions. Short, sensory descriptions (a peppercorn crust, a cognac cream sauce, burst tomatoes) carry the gourmet promise in the copy.

The Menu

Recipes are presented as a menu, each card showing its cooking time, category and two descriptive tags.

Eight category filters

Chicken, pasta, seafood, vegetarian, beef, Asian, salad and breakfast, each a single tap from the full menu.

Timed hero dish

A truffle mushroom risotto card in the opening screen shows the thirty-minute promise in practice.

New recipes weekly

A newsletter section, New Recipes, Every Week, brings fresh dishes to subscribers by email.

How We Achieved It

The menu filters by eight categories (chicken, pasta, seafood, vegetarian, beef, Asian, salad and breakfast), and every card shows its cooking time, its category and a pair of descriptive tags such as Japanese and Healthy or Mexican and Quick. A cook can narrow the menu to tonight's mood in one tap, and How It Works sits directly below for anyone new to the idea.

Five legal overlays sit in the footer, so the policies never interrupt the menu. The New Recipes, Every Week signup and the contact form are protected against spam with Google reCAPTCHA, and Get Recipes closes the navigation as its call to action. The page carries a meta description, keywords and structured data, plus a 1200 by 630 sharing image for links posted to social media.
